W140 amp(?) problem diagnosis

I've read up on the various problems with the Becker & Bose systems...just trying to get to 99% certainty of what my problem is. I've installed a new head unit which has 4v output, confirmed good ground and am using ground loop isolators between the head unit & amp (wiring harness). I can hear the source playing (radio, cd, or bluetooth), and can adjust the volume up and down, but there is underlying static/interference noise. Almost like there is FM static being played along with the source...the amount or loudness of the static fades in and out but some amount is always present. This static/interference sound is present regardless of engine on or off & doesn't vary with RPMs. No popping. This sound emits from all speakers. Is this the amp going bad?
