Radio lights not coming on with headlights

Radio lights not coming on with headlights
I replaced the original radio on my '97 E420 with an Audio 30 BE 3309. Now the radio won't light when I turn on the head lights. Any ideas? This function on the original radio worked fine and I've tested and Audio 10 and t works fine too.

I think the BE3309 gets illumination over CANBUS... and your radio wiring doesn't bring CANBUS to the radio.
First, check the radio in a newer installation, if possible, to make sure the illumnation is even working. It might be as simple as a bulb!

There's something funky with the power-in on a couple of levels. Besides the light (I have not yet checked the bulb), the radio does not shut off with the car. I can live with that but would prefer not to have to fool with it.

3) Figure out the CANBUS illumination for your climate control, and feed that to the radio. Even with that I think your car doesn't have ignition over CANBUS still.
4) Switch radios to an older Audio 30, I think one that only has 3 pins in the C connector instead of 5.

Ok, dumb question.... How to change/Check a bulb in the BE 3309 Audio 30. The light and display appears to be in the small front that lowers for the tape. I took it apart but all I have is a small panel of which one side is the display.
