Removing Voice Command Module?

from a '01 C240. The previous owner had a phone and VCM - he removed the phone but left the VCM. Since the VCM was wired to the PSE/telephone it doesnt work now unless i get a phone installl kit which i don't want. Can i remove the VCM without having to have the whole system reprogrammed? It seems that there is only a D connector and fiber optic connection connecting it physically to the bus. Do i have to terminate the fiber optic connections if i remove the VCM (like a scsi cable)? The dealer offered to rewire everything to make the VCM work without the phone but it would take several hours and it wasnt worth it to me.

If you unplug the VRM, you will still need to have the fiber bus re programmed via the dealers SDS laptop or error code would be thrown. Additionally, the fiber loop will need to be reconfigured if you unplg the fiber into the VRM.

do you know if the dangling fiber optic connector needs to be capped? i disconnected that as well and the D connector and everything seems fine since the VCM was originally wired to the PSE and was non opertional without it it doesnt seem to be a problem removing it. Thanks for your help.

The D2B fibre ring goes from Head-unit->CD->Phone->Voice->Teleaid->Digital-Bose-Amp *if* you have those options.

If you break the loop, then all those options will stop working.

If, after you have removed the VCS there isnt anything on the fibre loop (i.e you dont have CD or Teleaid, or a MY2002 car with bose), then you dont need to worry about it particularly.

If you do have stuff you need to work still, you need to either replug the D2B bus so that the unused fibre pieces arent used any more and all items are on the loop, or get a "connector" piece for connecting two pieces of D2B bus together. I dont know the part number.

Once you have done this MB dealer should tell the head unit what is present and what order it is connected ton the D2B bus. Many systems function fine without being reconfigured, some behave oddly !
