Bluetooth and Android playlists

Bluetooth and Android playlists
Hi.
I have a 2018 W213 with the widescreen panel. I have just changed phones from an Android 8.1 handset to an Android 10.0.
With the old phone - and I am using Google Play Music on both played via Bluetooth audio streaming - I can access the playlist on my car's screen by pressing the central rotary controller whilst the playlist was playing. However, with the new phone, pressing the rotary controller returns "Function not currently available".
Is this a compatibility issue with the newer phone? Or are my playlists (M3U format) incorrectly structured maybe?
Any help gratefully received.
