Apple CarPlay first new GLC
Hi all,
Looking for some info on Apple CarPlay and hopefully someone might be able to help!
I’ve just got a new 20 plate GLC amg line (UK based) and looking to see if there are any alternatives to activate Apple CarPlay instead of forking out £300 from the Mercedes App Store. I’ve seen a lot of aftermarket activation kits you can buy online the use the OBD port but not sure if these would work on my infotainment system (does anyone know how I identify the system I have, would it be ntg 5.2 for example?)

Beware of applecarplay2 air with usb C
I can’t give you a complete answer to your question, but all I know is that the applecarplay2 option will not work with a car that only has USB-C plugs, this is even if you use a usb-c to usb-A adapter.

Not a 100% sure how things are in the UK. Here in the USA, the Smartphone interface (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) are standard. Sounds like in the UK you can buy it after the fact using the new in car purchasing feature that they've been promising and still hasn't been rolled out here. To answer your question, no there is most likely no alternative. You have MBUX, which internally is NTG 6.x. Everything you'll find about unlocking CarPlay is for the older COMAND systems. I'm pretty sure MB protected their assest, so you can't just activate it w/o paying through the store, w/o hacking the system similar to jailbreaking iOS.
