NTG 4.5, how do you update to new maps?

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 2011 C63 AMG and the infotainment system that comes with it is NTG 4.5 with Map data version 2011 (V4.0 Europe).

I would love to update this to the 2020 map version and I'm not sure how to go about it. I know it's done using an SD Card but can I go from 2011 version straight to 2020 version without needing the other versions in-between?

I've seen somebody selling the 2020 update with an activation pin on ebay for £99. Is this worth purchasing or is there a cheaper way of going about it?

Also, anyway of installing Apple CarPlay on NTG 4.5?

Thanks in advance.

If your car's maps are on a resident hard drive (as opposed to CDs), then I don't think there's any need to install every subsequent release in order to get to the latest version. I'm fairly certain that each release comprises a complete, standalone set of maps.

As to whether the eBay seller is offering a legitimate product, that's anyone's guess. How are the seller's ratings and reviews?

Regarding CapPlay, I believe your model year is too old for the genuine MB kit (I was able to use the MB kit, but I think my model year was the earliest one for which this option is available). There are a few aftermarket companies that offer a CarPlay installation product, and there are multiple threads on the forum about those options. Please do a search here for CarPlay and see what actual users of those products have to say.

Thanks very much for your help.

MB did a genuine CarPlay kit? Have you got any information on it? For what it’s worth, my infotainment system is the one with a hard drive and an SD Card slot on the front.

The genuine MB "kit" is called the Smartphone Integration package retrofit. I bought the product online from an out-of-town dealership whose price was much better than that of my local dealer, but I had it installed by my dealer's service department. There's not much to it - just a swap-out USB port which replaces the original in the center console armrest, and a USB-lightning cable. I believe the dealer had to do some sort of software tweaking to authorize or activate it.

I don't think your car is compatible, but here's a link where you can enter your VIN to check: https://configurator.mercedes-benz-a...ransporter=car

Thanks again. My car is too old for the official MB solution.

Searching other threads, it seems like the only valid Carplay solution for my car is to by an after market unit that must be installed in place of the existing infotainment system. I’m not prepared to do that as it seems fairly clunky and you have to be using your Aux port to get sound out.

I was hoping there was a way to install CarPlay on the existing NTG 4.5 system but there doesn’t seem to be.
