Hoping someone here knows — or knows where to get the answers. This stuff isn't described in any manual I can find. The dealer gave me the MB support #. They forwarded me back and forth between departments, then asked me who my dealer was and forwarded me back there. Just to complete my 45 minute odyssey, the dealer accidentally (I hope) forwarded me to a medical supply company.
I'm just trying to get a small handful of Contacts on the car that I can call or navigate to. This was easy and described in the manual for COMAND, and even for my 2003 Lexus. I don't want all 400 Contacts from my phone. I've figured out the voice tag and how to add things as favorites. But managing the Contacts themselves and their navigation addresses eludes me.
1. When MBUX can't navigate to a Contact because "the information is incomplete", is there any way to save the completed info back into the contact, or do you have to re-enter the incomplete information every time you use the Contact?
2. What's the difference between "synchronize now" for Contacts, and "import contacts" from the same phone?
3. There's a command to copy a contact "to the vehicle" — how are contacts "on the vehicle" vs those on the phone managed?
4. What's the format spec for vcf files, specifically for navigable addresses within them? As far as I can tell, vcf files on a USB stick are the only way to import specific contacts. But some of those vcf files generate complaints of "incomplete information" for navigation — despite actually containing all the information and being formatted identically to other vcf files that work fine for navigation.
Somewhere inside Daimler there are specs that answer all these questions, but apparently it's top secret. They spent millions of dollars writing this software and I can't get the basic Contact info entered — they *really* want me to sync all 400 phone Contacts!
Thanks. I've watched that one and quite a few others, but none of them cover my questions. I've also searched these forums extensively and googled for other info — no luck.
Here is another channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsQ...bSnDQ2hqY3jzAg
I am afraid he too doesn't cover your questions but I suggest asking them on one of their videos and see if they can get back to you or if you can contact them directly on youtube and ask that way.
I'm assuming in MBUX you can still manually add a contact which would then only exist in MBUX and not get synced anywhere, but frankly I haven't done that in years in any system. I always sync the contacts from my phone. Well, they sync automatically. Nothing needs to be done. You can't edit a contact in MBUX and sync it back to the phone. That's not how the Bluetooth profile works. The sync is one-way from the phone to the Infotainment system. The information incomplete issue is a bug, and frankly I'm amazed they haven't fixed that in MBUX. I have the same issue with COMAND 5.5 in my '19 C63.
If you are trying to limit the number of contacts that get synced from your phone, then you are looking in the wrong place. That's not something you can control in MBUX. You have to control that on the phone itself and the how depends on what phone you have. But basically under the Bluetooth settings in your phone, you should be able to control whether you wanna sync all the contacts, only favorites or specific groups or none at all. MBUX etc. just takes whatever it receives from the phone.
EDIT: FWIW, here's how the contact management looks like on my iPhone. As you can see I'm syncing all contacts, including favorites and recent. I don't custom group my contacts, but I believe if I did, those groups would show up here as well and I could sync those specific groups if I just wanted a specific subset, or I could just make the contacts I want on my car favorites on my phone and then just sync the favorite contacts.

I think the main MBUX "Navigate to Contact" screw-up is apartment #. For some reason, the apartment number makes the address incomplete. Maybe there is a misalignment of this field. Most of the time, when I enter the address into my phone without the apartment #, MBUX Navigation works fine. And your Navi doesn't need an apartment number anyway in order to guide you. Also, sometimes you need to give a clarification for guidance to your contact, as was explained in this video:
