2002 aftermarket stereo install

Are you able to install amps and subwoofers to a 2002 Mercedes? I called a local stereo shop and they informed me that that cant do it because Mercedes is running some fiber optics for the stereo. I have a 97 right now with 2 bazooks, MB Quarts components and fosgate amps and wanted to move them to my 2002.

Whoever/whichever shop you went to don't go there anymore because that's not true. If you go to a really good shop who knows what they're doing you can install pretty much whatever you want on them. I mean if you've ever been to a car show just look at those MB with big wheels and nice stereo and multimedia setup inside the car.

The thing is I want to keep the stock head unit for now, so that I dont have to worry about somebody thinking I have anything in there. Can I keep the stock head unit and just add what I have now?

I had a amp installed, and replaced both sets of door speakers, keeping the factory head unit, and cd changer, sound is so much better, stamped on the back of the factory speakers it says, made in Hungry, they are junk

2002 c230, spent 179$ for diamond componet speakers, 100$ for coax in rear of doors, allready had a amp from last car, install was another 185$, had amp placed over rear wheel, there is lots of room after that big piece of grey foam is removed ,the nice thing about placing it there is, you have lost no space in the car, everthing still looks factory, I think that is where the bose stuff would go if you you had it.

schell,

How did you mount the amp? What kind of mounting hardware did you use? Do you have a picture of it? I was wondering about using that space as well.

I dont have a picture, I thought about having the installer cutting a hole in the foam to fit the amp, but I did not know if it would cause a heat problem, I am not sure but I think he made somthing out of wood that fit in the space, and mounted the amp to that.
