Issue with Command on an 01 S class
I have a 2001 Mercedes Benz S430 Canadian spec car. I love it. It has been an amazing car to own. After recently replacing the rear windshield and the battery, my command system shorted out and my radio showed 00.0 FM. I tried a Command System from 2002 and the car radio now works fine. I purchased a replacement radio for my Benz from an 01 Mercedes Benz S class from a wrecker. The wrecker claimed they had tested the radio and it worked. When the dealer installed the replacement unit from the wrecker, the unit powered on and stayed on 00.0 FM. They took the unit from the 2002 S class they had in the back and it worked fine.
Could there be an issue with the wiring of my 2001 preventing any 01 command system from working? It seems weird that the unit from the wrecker that had been tested have the same issue as my old radio. Has any one seen that displayed before and what was done to resolve it? I should say the replacement unit from the wrecker was the same unit that I had in my 01 S Class previously. Perhaps they should have entered the radio code to get the unit working in the menu? Or does the 01 command unit even use a radio code.
