E350 Sedan, GLE 350

Deactivated Seat Heater

Hi. We have a brand new 2022 GLE 350 and found that the seat heater on the passenger side (where my wife is usually sitting) seemed to become disabled on a long trip. On our older car, a 2007 E350 Sedan, we are used to the seat heat automatically dropping down the level from 3 to 2 to 1 to off, but you are always able to restart the heating. The new GLE does the same thing but it seems to disable itself completely after a while. This happened yesterday on a 2 hour trip; after about 1 hour my wife could no longer put the seat heat on. When pressing the button the lights flash for a moment and then go off and the seat does not heat. This morning it worked as expected. The manual states: "To protect against overheating, the seat heating may be temporarily deactivate after it has been switched on repeatedly". What solution is there if you are on a long trip and would like the seat to be heated throughout? How long does is the deactivated state designed to last?

The seat heater operation in my '19 G550 is similarly descrbed in its OM, and there's not likely any way to override this behavior. The OM alludes to auto shutoff and disable as being a safety issue, and so the heater likely remains off indefinitely as long as the seat temp remains above some arbitrary value. If the seat temp sensors indicate your wife's bottom is warm, who is she to disagree?(lol)
