2001 E430 SWC aftermarket radio

I have a 2001 Mercedes E430. This is my 4th W210 that I've owned. It's loaded with every option including ventilated and orthopedic seats and factory Comand 2 navigation w/ Bose. I installed an updated head unit for Android Auto, siriusxm, backup camera etc. The unit I purchased is a Dual DCPA701W, primarily because I put it in my 2004 Avalanche and love it.

I installed the new unit and used a Crux swrmb-57 connector to simplify the installation process. I was shocked when it started working right away with amazing sound even though I didn't hook up a D2B optical converter. The only issue I am having is that I have no steering wheel controls. I've read on numerous discussions that almost everyone that has used this connector instantly had SWC.

I tried taping into the brown/red and brown canbus wires that led to the factory stereo to the pink wires from the harness (I had to cut and splice since the harness they sent was different). I had steering wheel controls, BUT the car wouldn't detect if the key was in or out of the ignition and the key was stuck and wouldn't come out. I disconnected the canbus connection and the key worked again, but I lost SWC. I'm stuck and would really like to have them working. Any help is appreciated

Ah, the classic W210 key-interlock issue. That system is tied directly to the CAN bus. By splicing those wires, you likely created a signal conflict that confused the ignition module.

The Crux harness should handle SWC through its built-in interface. Double-check that the harness is fully seated and that its SWC wire (usually a light blue one) is properly connected to your Dual radio's steering wheel control input wire. You shouldn't need to tap the factory CAN wires directly. A faulty or misprogrammed interface module can also cause this.

Everything is connected exactly like it should be and still no SWC. The 3mm plug goes right to the plug from the radio (which is basically idiot proof).

Chatted with Crutchfield today. After several attempts, we are both stumped. It works (even the center display in the cluster changes and says radio) with one Can Lo wire coming from the new radio going to the Can Hi (even though it's wrong). But, that immobilizes the car and the key won't turn. Once I disconnect it and unhook/rehook up the battery, the key works again but no SWC. If you connect them the way they are supposed to go, it does nothing at all. The switching the internal dip to 5v from 3v3 turns off the radio completely. I suppose I am just going to have to live without SWC.
