W211 EGS torque reduction

Hi all,

I’m working on a W211 where the automatic gearbox has been removed and replaced with a manual. The issue I’m dealing with now is torque limitation from the engine ECU when the EGS is reporting faults due to the missing gearbox. Removing the ECU causes other systems to fault so i would like to emulate the EGS.

My questions:
  • Does anyone know which byte/bit in 0x218, 0x338 or 0x418 corresponds to engine torque reduction or shift intervention requests?
  • Is there a frame known to contain a “shift in progress” or “gearbox fault active” flag that would cause the ME to limit torque?
  • Are there rolling counters or CRCs in this frame that need to be preserved when emulating it?

I've attached a can capture from my car switching between Park, Drive and Reverse. Any insight into the EGS signal layout on my W211 / 722.6 car would be much appreciated.

I'm hoping @rnd_ash might have some advice for me

Thanks in advance.
