04 E55 Phone Question (Urgent)!
AT&T has converted to GSM and no longer offers TDMA service to new customers. If you have a car built before MY2005 and you have the AT&T V60 TDMA integrated phone system, in a short while your phone will be unusable.
MBUSA has not received enough complaints to address this issue. If they did, they would - or at least that's what my sources inside the organization have told me. I have been asking people to help by sending an e-mail, but few, if any, have done so. It would not be hard for them to develop a cradle that will allow the new phones to work with the older PSE and CP (which is what is in your car). At the moment, they don't think there is any demand for it.
I urge you and everyone who reads this post to send an E-mail or better still write a letter to MBUSA and complain that they are not providing a version of the new v600 and V710 phones that will work in any car built before 2005.

greetingz,
MBUSA doesn't offer any GSM solution that will work on US cars built prior to 2005 and they have no plans to do so. You can install the European electronics, but then you void the warranty for other system problems you may have with the electronics - and we all know they are not bug free. And in his case, he would have to lose tele-aid since no one has come up with an alternative solution that retains tele-aid for any car with a CP - 2003 / 2004 E-class and 2004 S-class.
The mikbox is a great solution because it uses US supported electronics on the bus and can be easily removed so problems with the electronics can be addressed under warranty. But it doesn’t work on any car with a CP.
Since cars like mine and his already have the CP that performs the same function as the PSE installed, all we really need is a cradle with the necessary electronics to make it work. I heard someone was able to get the new V600 to work on a 2004 E-class using the circuit board from the v60 cradle and a hang-up cup, but I haven’t been able to confirm this.
I know you have built a business around suppling european electronics to the US market, but can you provide him with a solution that gives him a GSM phone and tele-aid?
A cradle that works with the CP is what we need. Unfortunately, know one has been able to figure out had to build one yet.

Unfortunately, not many people want to pay for this, and would rather wait for a cheaper solution. For some, it may even require use of a less than desirable phone (to some people the V600 is less than desirable), yet it is still worth waiting for because of the possible price savings.
p.s. all the "european electronics" are made in the USA by Motorola. Exception is the cradles which, even for the US phone systems, are made in Germany.

Actually, I think you mean "no one has been able to figure out how to build one yet AND SPEAK UP ABOUT IT" because I know that several people have already figured it out. Being unable to build it cost effectively or being unwilling to build it are different issues.

I wish the people who have figured it out would share the knowledge.

I sent an email. This is the response I received:
Thank you for sending the E-mail.
This is not the same response I received back in January. Could they be reconsidering their decision to not offer a retro-fit kit for the new phones? Has anyone else received a similar response?
Please, if you haven't already done so, send MBUSA an E-mail and ask them to offer a reto-fit kit for the new handsets.
