39 month lease vs. 36 etc.

I see these leases that extend 3 months past normal 12 month cycles that you normally find on leases. Are they done this way by the finance companies to force the lessee to pay for licensing, repairs etc. that they would not be responsible for turning in at 12 month markers? Is there something to benefit the lessee beyond keeping the car a bit longer? Thanks

That is the point where they have made the most money they can from you, and at he same time make the most money they can from the next guy who drives the car.

I got a 39, so that I wouldn't have to worry about getting a new car in the busy december/new year timeframe again. Something about it like to me it feels like enjoy it 36 months, and then start looking at what to do.

With a 39 you pay the 4th year's tax but give back the car with 9 months left of the year....the DMV may give a partial refund if you pester them.

Depending on the lease source the extended 3 month term may use the same residual as the 36 month. You may or may not get the extra miles.

We do a lot of the 27, 39 and some 51 month leases.
