Leasing - Can they change a residual after you drive off the lot?
Hi guys,
So, my friend negotiated the lease of a vehicle (GT-R). After the typical haggling and all that, they agreed on a lease price, money factor, trade value, residual value, dealer premium etc. Yesterday he was able to take the vehicle home, all the papers signed and done.
Today they call him and tell him they need to raise his payment because the residual value of the car needs to be adjusted. They're changing the value by $10k. The residual would now be $20k lower than most standard residuals for this car (and its a special edition!)
Can they do that? Should my buddy lawyer up?

We actually found a clause in the contract that says they have 10 days to adjust the financial terms of the lease, and the vehicle must be returned immediately.
This whole thing sounds fishy to me.

Sounds like a bluff to me, if the option is to return the car immediately like he said above. I'd call their bluff and take it in to return it. They won't be able to sell it as new anymore, so he might even try to swing a better residual than he originally got just to do them a favor and keep it
