C250 Coupe RWD for snow belt?

I want a C250 Coupe with 4Matic but looks like it's not going to be available anytime soon. Do you think the C250 RWD with a good set of winter tires can tackle the winter weather just as good? FYI, I'm in metro Detroit. I owned a W202 C280 RWD 15 years ago. It took a little while to get going on a 15 degree incline even with a set of Bridgestone Blizzarks. I'm wondering if winter tire technology has improved leaps and bounds after all these years. Thanks!

There is no way a RWD C250 is even in the same ballapark as a 4matic in snowy conditions. Even with a great set of snow tires there just isnt enough weight over the drive axle in a RWD to get enough bite.

Im from the Grosse Pointe, MI area. Good to see some detroiters here! Anyway, i don't think you should get a C Class without 4Matic. My neighbor has a 2010 E550 RWD, and he leased a ML just for the winter because the E Class was horrible.

They have a few C Classes at Mercedes Benz St. Clair Shores. I always deal with Louis Cardinale there. He works on the preowned side now, but when we met him 5 years ago, he was at new car sales. But either way, he will be more than happy to take care of you.

Hope to see you around sometime..

I daily drove a C230 coupe (rwd) for 5 years.
When the snow fell I put on Blizzaks. So long as the snow wasn't over 3-4" deep I didn't have any issues.

I live in Toronto and I visit Montreal often.

Last year, I changed my winter tires from Pirelli Snowsport 210 to Toyo Garit KX and I could see vast improvement in winter driving.

On very bad days before the Toyo, I used to put 120 LBS of cat litter in the trunk to improve traction.
