Lug bolts rust?

Just installed winter set on my 3 weeks old C350 coupe and been extremely surprised to see rust spots on lug bolts. They might not survive long with salt and water sprays of our winter in NY/NJ area. I did research and order set of RAD lag nuts which should be better on rust and overall better than original.
It is my first Benz and I am very surprised to see this, are you replacing your as well or you are using some type of graphite based lubricant to protect bolts?

I lived in Tallahassee, FL for 3 years with my C300 and I saw the same behavior... No snow or salted roads to speak of. Tallahassee is around 20 miles from the Gulf, so while rains would undoubtedly carry some salt to the area I'd be surprised if it was enough to speed up the oxidation. Then again I'm no scientist either.

To be fair I was making regular trips to the Tampa area every other week for more than a year so that probably further exposed the car to salty rain and moisture in the air. The water in Tampa is also much, much harder than in Tallahassee, so having sprinkler systems come on while out and about probably didn't help either. I've been told that most systems down here use wells or other reclaimed water.

Thanks for pointing this out. I saw this and never gave it much thought because the C300 was a lease. I'll definitely keep it in mind with all future purchases.

Rust will happen any place, salt will just make it much quicker. If you don't like to spend money for better bolts just go Autozone and buy graphite based lubricant and lube your bolts before they are dead rusted.
I read lot of info and ordered on Amazon this RAD bolts, they are made in Germany and suppose to be best replacement for Mercedes cars.
