2012 C250 Coupe
Engine oil consumption

The owners manual states that it's not uncommon for the C250 to consume 0.9 quarts of oil every 600 miles (1,000 kms). Has anyone experienced this? Not sure if it's my driving style but I just hit 5,000 kms and haven't had to add any oil. I check the oil level every fill up based on the warning in the manual but wonder if I can cut back to every 2nd week or so.

While on the topic of oil, any brand name suggestions? The manual basically says to go to the dealer and buy MB oil. I have to assume any good synthetic oil would be good (Mobile 1 for example). If anyone knows what brand/specifications are best I'd appreciate it.

Thanks... and Merry Christmas.

This is the right stuff! ^ Which ever you buy, just make sure the Syn Oil meets or exceeds the Mercedes 229.5 Spec!

Lol, I don't get that post about nissans and any oil either. Just signed on a c250 coupe myself, pick it up tomorrow, so I haven't had time to thumb through the manual.

I would be shocked if it would be normal for the car to consume nearly 1 quart per 600 , that would just be ridiculous, especially for a mercedes. Good thing I went for the maintenance package if that is the case... But I think this is more of a general disclaimer instead of any common occurrence. I would think that mercedes knows that most owners will never even get under the hood and check the oil, let alone weekly or commonly. I think this would also be relatively over-bearing to ask of.

I am also pretty sure that the pre-facelift w204 had an oil level sensor (that would warn if the oil level fell too low, to check it). I would assume that the 2012's would retain this feature. So my suggestion, don't worry about it, check it monthly. Checking it every 2 weeks certainly won't harm anything, but if you ask me, is a waste.

Ok gentlemen. Lets keep the personal attacks, no matter how thinly veiled, out of this. Not everybody likes every car.

If we can't keep this sandbox clean we'll come through with a rake and clean it for you.

Thank you.
