Hopefully you didn't attempt to start your car in the water. Perhaps the car isn't in too bad condition... Would love to buy it salvage from insurance co!
Nah the car is dead 1000% I didn't even think about starting it. It would be a terrible idea, the turbo's would suck the water right into the cylinders. No point, the car is deemed a total loss anyway. Apparently it's going straight to auction after they take it from my garage so if you want it, then go buy it lol. It's been well taken care of, but the sewage water might be a problem.

How did you take out the chrome strips in the grill without breaking the clips in the back? I messed up on my first car and broke a few of those clips.

When I did my grille, there's a tab on the back side of the chrome strips that you press in with a screw driver and they will slide outward (away from the logo). It's hard to explain without looking at it, but if you play around you should see it. It's actually pretty simple and if you plastidip the grille, it's the only way to do it really if you want a good job.

I didn't take out the chrome strips. I removed the grille (which was pretty simple) and then took my time and taped off the chrome strips. Then I just painted the grille and that was it!

Thanks! I didn't use the glossifier or the pearlizer. That is just the regular matte black. I am doing my chrome window strips next!

I did this the first time I painted my grille on my old coupe. But I broke at least 1 clip for each of the chrome strips and this bothered me because they looked broken afterward. I'm trying to avoid that this time.

Yeah, definitely don't try removing the chrome strips. Its almost impossible to do it without breaking them. I broke them all on my prior C300 Sedan, haha.

For what its worth, if you just spray the entire grille with enough coats (allowing enough drying time in between) I wonder if you can just use a razor blade to cut it right behind the chrome strips and remove it from the chrome?

Already figure out how to do it by the time you guys answered. I got my grille painted after I took it apart. Also I painted my side markers steel grey to match the body and the middle of the lip on the bumper the same color black. Also recently I installed Aznoptics LEDs and Phillips diamond white 5000k lamps.

You definitely could use that method...just spray the whole grille then run a blade next to the chrome. I basically did that except i took a little extra time to tape off the chrome strips. I still made sure to overspray a little extra on the chrome so it fully covered and was easy to peel off in one piece. Then I ran a blade down the side of the chrome strip and it peeled right off in one shot.

I would say from doing it the most important part to make your life easier it to remove the grille.

Andrew...the car is looking MINT. Really nice job with the mods you did...it came out great. Have a couple questions, not sure if these are already answered in a different thread.
-What wheels are those? Size, offset etc....did you use wheel spacers?
-What lowering springs did you order and how much drop? Do you notice a big difference in ride quality? Any rubbing?
-Is that a totally new grille or you painted yours?

You painted the side markers by yourself or professionally?

~ the wheels are 19" (8.5 front & 9.5 rear)... and the offset is perfect (48/50) with no spacers needed. the wheels are a replica CL65 wheel and are no longer produced in that offset. i am having them painted mb billiant silver where the inlay in currently gray come winter.

-What lowering springs did you order and how much drop? Do you notice a big difference in ride quality? Any rubbing?

~ the springs are the eibach pro-kit (not available in the US as of yet - i ordered them from germany directly and had them overnighted). the drop was appx an inch front and rear. i did end up changing the spring pad to a 5mm to get the rear lower than the springs allowed). no rubbing what-so-ever.

-Is that a totally new grille or you painted yours?

~ the grill is from the 2013 sport c coupe... a factory part from benz.

-You painted the side markers by yourself or professionally?

~ i purchased new markers from mercedes and had them professionally painted to match.

Is there a difference between the grill you got and the stock 2012 grill with the silver fins painted?

I took it off because my 2013 coupe was not reacting well to the tune, a lot of CEL's popping up. I'm not sure if I will reinstall or sell at this point.

I got everything painted professionally. My father owns a body shop so I get things like that done for free.
