Lock/unlock acoustics - Beep horn

Does your Coupe has the acoustics when you unlock the car with your key fob (1 x beep horn once) and lock (3 x beep horn)?

I was told the Coupe's were not fitted with this feature but sedan and E-Class Coupe have it. It's strange as the user manual explained the feature. Please let me know if yours have it...

you can turn the feature on by going into the settings on your dash board.
but I find it annoying and kinda embarrassing that it plays a 3 beep horn when its locked.
its way too long and kind of lame imo
i prefer the one beep horn or sth like this

Oh geez. That being the case the Coupe do have this function huh? Looks like I got punked by the service advisor. He said there's new car and he went to compare. It doesn't have this function too. Anyone else has it?

The dealership turned on this feature to me for me, 2004 CLK320. He told me this was a European feature. I think this was turned on by the Star tool, not by the dash instrumental panel.

I personally like it a lot, the tune is discreet, volume is low so it is not disruptive. A lot better than other car alarms. I can walk away from the car right away and I know it's locked by the beeps.

If you are in the U.S. this is definitely enabled/disabled via the speedometer cluster information panel. I think it is called "Acoustic Lock" - simply enable it. The reason why they probably don't think that it has this is that it comes from the factory default as disabled now - I believe.

Yes, my 2011 and 2012s had them set for audible lock/unlock. Sounds like a dying calf versus the previous sound (pre-2011) which was more appealing to the ear.

C'mon man. That is so 90s Ford & GM. Be a good neighbor. Silence is golden. If 3 blinks of 6 turn signals won't convince you that the car is locked, watch the door posts.
Annoying car & bike sounds are going to make me go postal someday.

At least for me, the only reason my acoustic alarm turned on is for finding my car in a really big parking lot. It really helps...

It's good to at least have an option to turn it on at will.

My C350 coupe has the function....1x beep for unlock.....3x beep for lock. No option to change other than turn on or off.

Choice is good. As long you make the right choices.

Lights will do the same thing. Click the LOCK button. The range on our GLK remote is about 50 yards. If I can't find it then, I shouldn't be driving. The height helps too. Unless I'm surrounded by trucks. Usually the case in Texas.

Speaking of choice. Why can't we turn on the approach lighting with a dedicated switch? My Volvo does. And has very nice lights under the mirrors.

ps: What do your neighbors think of the horn beeping?

What has this thread turned into?!?!

Have we really degraded ourselves into a argument over whether or not it is necessary to have horn beeps or not when locking/unlocking the car.

Hopefully this will solve any and all questions and end all aruments so this silly thread can die...

1) All MBUSA spec 2012 w204/c204 vehicles come standard with the ability to have acoustic lock/unlock noise.

2) You have the ability to turn it on, so that when you unlock the car, there is one short horn beep, and when you lock the car, there are three quick horn beeps.

3) Whether or not you choose to have the acoustic lock/unlock function enabled/disabled, all turn signals still blink, respectively. That is, when you unlock, they blink once, and when you lock, they blink three times.

4) If a door is not fully shut or the trunk is open, when you press the button to lock the vehicle the lights won't flash (and if you have the acoustic lock enabled - the horn won't beep either).

5) If you have your lights set on auto, and it is dark enough that the lights will illuminate, when you unlock your car your parking lights will come on. If you have your lights left on the "on" position, it will never illuminate when you unlock the car, regardless of lighting conditions.

I hope that solves all questions. Now whether or not it is "rude" to have the horn beeps to neighbors. Perhaps if you get home in the very late hours (11pm-7am). But it isn't a FULL horn beep. They are very quick, not very loud beeps. I am never awoken from my brother when he gets home, and haven't heard any complaints from neighbors or other people.

And if anyone were to complain, it would be one neighbor who is "that guy" who gets pleasure out of calling the cops or notifying the town about any little thing that he finds just to bust our chops, even though it doesn't concern him at all...

I think one thing can be agreed upon. The "horn beeps" on the 2011-2012 w204/c204 models are certainly not as nice as the "euro chirp" on the 2008-2010 w204 models. But heck, what are you going to do, if you don't like them that much, just disable it and get on with your lives.

I like the beeps on cars. They let you know that the car is locked. This would be even more valuable for people with keyless-go. If I get that option I want to hear the car lock after I walk away.

Incorrect. I have Keyless-Go. I rarely, if ever, use the remote. When entering/exiting I just touch the door handle to unlock/lock the vehicle. When locking, I hear the solenoid and see the door lock posts retract. Confirmed by the lights flashing. The car is locked before I walk away. We do use the remote to open the tailgate when approaching with groceries, etc.
I'm just trying to promote environmental harmony. Living in close quarters with a wide variety of rudely offensive noisy vehicles, I am very sensitive to needless auto/motorcycle sounds. That might be one reason why my home is located in an exceptionally quiet area way back in the woods.

I got an update from the SA saying that the news given from MB Germany states that cars production starting around Oct 2011 (December 2011 delivery) no longer has the beep horn sound when lock/unlock door. Can anyone cross verify that statement? Does anyone collect their car after Dec 2011 and still has the beep horn?

Mercedes-Benz must have gotten my memo. Just kidding. Our GLK was built in mid-October. I haven't looked for the noise maker. Maybe it is not there?

Wayne, did you find it? Should be on your instrument cluster, SETTINGS menu. I saw it before and it says Acoustics with a rounded arrow around the car.

Learn something new every day. It's there. It's disabled. It's staying disabled. I love a quiet car.

Number of beeps

I stumbled onto this thread because of a peculiarity I noticed in two nearly identical C250 sedans. Within the span of a couple of weeks, I bought one C250 and then swapped it for another one...the only difference being the one I have now has the premium 1 package, the first one didn't.

The first car beeped once when you unlocked and thrice when you locked. The second car doesn't beep when you unlock and beeps once when you lock.

Odd, right? They're EXACTLY the same (year, model, body style, keyless go, options/packages - except for premo 1). Anyone else ever see...or rather hear this?

Agree, I have that feature turned off on my C Coupe and as mentioned by others if you have keyless go there's no need for any audible confirmations on entry or exiting of the vehicle

locks silently, but if u press it again you hear a quiet horn.
no sound when unlocking

was not able to find anything in the menu to enable audio

I still need to see my friend to see about changing settings, on my C300 the chirp volume was set to 30%, which I had him increase to 60%
