Thanks man. I am definitely redoing the lip. But do you think it will look better all black? I really don't mind putting in the extra work for the lip. I just mind putting in the work if it does not look good in the end.

I wasn't really feeling the lip. So I redid the wheel, and made a better lip. It is now a little thinner. It isn't as sloppy. It looks natural now. I'll post pictures once I'm finished. Btw, I used newspaper this time, and it literally took me 30 seconds. I just stuffed the papers back there until no brake or rotor was showing.

Thanks for sharing. Car looks great. I am looking into a c class coupe and was on the fence about the red I terror but from your pictures it looks amazing with the white. Now to find a black one with red interior since that is my other option...

that was one expensive beast when new.

as for the wheels... i personally think the black shrinks the appearance of the wheel size.

Yeah, when we bought it in '06, it was pricey. Now with 90K miles, it went down so much in value that I feel it's not even worth selling. I also kind of think the wheels look smaller, but I think they really set the stormtrooper look...my favorite color combo.

I agree. The black wheels make them looked smaller.

any tips/tricks u can share on leaving the lip polished while dipping the rest of the wheels?

r u using tape to mask the lip and leaving it on till the job is done? or removing and re-taping after each coat?

I've plasti dipped a couple times before and getting that lip so clean seems kinda hard.

Hey, there are many ways to do the wheels. I'll show you my way, but it isn't really the correct way to do it . First, I cover the brakes, then I tape the lip with electrical tape (should not have the tape for too long, as it can pull some clear-coat off your wheel....ask me how I know ) Btw, throughout my process, I only put tape once per wheel.
Next, I start spraying the spokes only, trying as best as I can to miss where the tape is. I do this for about 3 coats. It is okay if when doing this, a little overspray gets onto the tape. After this, spray the entire wheel, including the taped lip, by a method called "flash spraying" (see video below). Give the lip 3 coats, in one shot. Wait about 45 seconds, and another coat or 2 in one shot. Then, the moment you are done spraying, peel off the tape gently, so as to not accidentally smear off wet the plastidip from the wheel. If you find the you missed some areas. then you can just add a little tape to one small area of the lip. Btw, if you do the wheel while on the car, make sure to get under there, because the bottom of the spokes are not really visible to you. Make sure to cover the whole wheel. Be creative! Hope I helped; Good luck!

ˆ^I did mine the other way around on the first wheel and then I didnt even use tape. I had an old shirt I used to wipe the dip off the lip while wet. So I dipped the outside of the rim first gave it a nice double coat and wiped the dip off the lip. then I kept spraying the inside of the rim avoiding the lip. sometimes I did re-sprayed part of the lip when needed and wiped it off right away.. on the other wheels I didnt even bother taping. used the shirt from the beginning. it is kinda risky to wait for 10 seconds more and the dip bonds to the tape and when you pull it it messes up the whole thing.. my wheels have many coats because I figured it would be easier to pull it off if i have a think layer of dip..

I was going to plastiDip but it was just a pain in the *** to mask and the tapes somehow wont stick onto this wheel. Anyone has done any paint job to this wheel and wants to share the results?
Thank you a lot!

I thought about blacking out the rear spoiler but I didnt.. maybe I will try another day.

You PlastiDipped the Grill as well? I think the Grill looks great, especially with the front bumper done as well. Like I said before I have the same exact color combo, Diamond White w/ Red interior. I live in Bergen County...would you be interested at all in maybe doing the Grill together or even just talking on the phone quick to explain how you did it?

Did you take the grill off the car to plastidip it or did you just tape everything off and leave it on?

I am thinking of doing the grill black, but glossy, and doing the front bumper but leaving it matte black.

Let me know when you have a chance. We both got them at Benzel Busch we have to stick together! haha

Thanks bro!

A little late to the party, but I'm looking at getting new wheels and want 19s. The problem is, no one makes lowering springs for the 4matic. I can get tires that make them the same diameter as the current 18s, but I'm afraid of getting wheels and it looking like a 4x4. That being said, I've been asked if my car is lowered, too (even by the dealer) so I wonder if the 4matics sit lower? Doesn't make sense but I'd be ok with it.
