Question C350 New owner - A few outstanding questions

Recently purchased a 2012 C350 coupe owner (C204), i've been looking around on here and getting used to the vehicle. I have a few questions.

I recently took a trip in the navi, and it was very frustrating not to be able to see a split screen or some sort of screen that showed how far to and what the next instruction/turn was on the main display, even if it wasnt for 100 miles. All I was able to see on the main screen is just the large map with the blue line showing my route. On the small drivers screen, I could get information on how far till the next turn but not much info. Is there some sort of way to get more details on the main navi screen?

Firmware, I purchased the car certified pre-owned and it has 2012 software loaded on it, dealer said there was no 2013 out yet. However, I am skeptical there isn't a '13 and/or a '14 release yet. Is there a 2013 or 2014 map/firmware update for the comand system in the US?

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome

Not sure what's happening there but it may depend on the sat nav set up/info software of the Country your in, with mine for eg. (located in Australia) it nearly always reverts from full screen to a split screen view (small on left side and enlargement on right side) with that sort of information when approaching the next major change in direction or obstacle ahead.

Definitely enquire with your dealer or compare it to another MB where your located to see what the situation is

If purchased from a dealer, they should have explained on how to operate everything. You should also have a COMAND manual...sit down and read the manual....it really does help. As far as the navigation database update, I would think that there should be an update in 2013...if dealer purchased, it should have been updated...a new update DVD is a few hundred bucks.

Hi Paul and AV1,

Thank you for the replies. The navi does switch to a split screen mode within 1 mile of the next turn. My old '01 car, if you hit the navi button it switched between the map showing the entire route and a screen that showed the next operation, no matter if the operation was a mile away or 20 miles away. In a long journey it would be nice to know what the next required operation is instead of following the navi blindly. I have been able to find a way to watch a turn by turn overview of the entire trip that looks like the movie, but I have been unable to determine how to consistently see the next operation on the main navi screen. The current version of the map data in the C204 is "2012 (V7.0) N.America", anyone know the latest?

I see what your saying there and what I do for a regular info feed before waiting for the sat nav to do so is regurlarly select and hit the 'ear' icon shown on screen and it will then voice update you on what's coming up ahead or how long to go before the next change coming up.

Not sure if that helps for what your wanting but I find that doing the above keeps me well informed of the road ahead certainly alot more than just relying on the sat navs default last moment updates.

My current software is also 2012 based, but as said the content and capability of the software may very well vary from Country to Country, last I checked for mine here in Aust. was earlier this year and was told no update was yet available.

Thanks Angelo,
I didn't know about the ear icon - good tip.
The StaNav is a bit disapointing in the car as TomTom has speed and redlight camera locations and Points of interest etc etc etc...
Merc should do a deal with someone like TomTom for maps and updates so we have access to the same.
I find i run with the Mec giving me directions and the Tom Tom on for critical camera info.
Cheers

COMAND DOES have Points of Interest, and is much improved than the COMAND that was in my 2005 C230

Hello there how's it all going

Yes there's quite a few hidden nice little functions everywhere on this vehicle, just when I think i know it all something else pops up and I'm sure there's plenty there within the command software we still don't know about.

What you say about some of the deficiencies is true, I also have a current model Mazda 3 SP25 and both the accuracy and info layout of that OEM sat nav is better than in my C Class (AFAIK most OEM sat navs do use Tom Tom software/hardware) the MB however has the bigger and nicer screen

Yes points of interest are there, you need to select those items from the menu
