About to start big project on my coupe

Shortly after purchasing my car, I added Blind Spot Assist, Power Folding Mirrors, and Convex mirrors. It was a pretty big project in itself. This week, I am going to install the C63 rear sway bar (in addition to the front C63 sway bar previously installed).

I am in the process of getting the parts for installing the bi-xenon lights and parts for the Lane Keeping Assist. All of the parts (headlamps, headlamp washers, multifunction camera, wiring harnesses, and control units/sensors are 100% Mercedes that came off a car that only had 600 km on it.

I am sure that this will be a 3-6 month project, doing the project in several stages. I will have to get a new front bumper cover to accommodate the headlamp washers, along with a new windshield that will accommodate the multi-function camera.

I will try to take pictures and detailed notes along the way. The total cost will be pretty expensive, but well worth it to me.

hey captain,

i love all the cool projects you are working on and i most definitely enjoy reading and learning as you document the processes. i'm not much of a DIYer but alway appreciate those who are and their efforts.

quick question...just out of pure curiosity, why didn't you get just get the cars that had the the drivers asst package or the lane asst package. i know some of the things are not offered as options like folding mirrors and sway bar upgrades but it seems like some are. who it not have been less expensive just by adding those options when you first purchased the car? or is it just out of pure enjoyment of building things?

again, i appreciate and enjoy reading about your upgrades...just curious.

I actually ordered my car to my spec in May 2012 on the first day you were able to order the MY2013. I didn't give much thought to the Lane Tracking Package at the time, but have grown fond to having the Blind Spot Assist. I am only adding the Lane Tracking now because I have to install the multifunction camera because of the headlights, and thought might as well do the LTP.

The bi-xenon package was on an extended delay with an unknown delivery from suppliers. To retrofit the options later costs roughly 3x the price of the original options. On my previous car (2005 C230), I must have added about $5000 worth of OEM retrofits. I guess I just love doing the retrofits myself and really get into the car. Its challenging as well as rewarding at the same time.

Even with a 1mm larger bar in the front and back, it makes the car more sport-like. Not as much roll and able to plant the car where I need to while driving.

That's awesome man " Would they work on the c250 coupe as well ? I have done a lot work to my c250 coupe but I feel like the handling and ride could be a bit better than how it is right now

The C350 sway bars, both front and rear, are 1 mm bigger than the C250 bars. The C63 sway bars are 1mm bigger than the C350 ones.

I could sell you my C350 ones for a very good price or I can give you the part numbers for the C63 ones.
