Does anyone know what this part of the engine is?

See the red circle in the attached picture. Does anyone know what this part of the engine is? This is the M276 engine on the C350.

Additionally... FYI. The ECU is mounted onto the (black) bracket (not visible in your photo. Two connectors on the top (not shown) but is visible once you remove the cover. I had mine (ECU from my E350 Coupe) removed and tuned by Jerry at Eurocharged two years ago. ECU takes 15 mins to remove or reinstall. Noticeable HP and torque gains. I'm sure on the C204 it would be quite improved.
