Curious - What happens if you are rear ended while HOLD feature engaged?

I have been wondering if MB programmed the HOLD feature to keep the brakes engaged if you are struck from behind. I use it a great deal and worry that I am going to be rear ended and my right foot is going to hit the gas by accident and disengage the brakes. Of course my left foot is flat on the floor since the brakes are engaged.
Has anyone been involved in an accident when the HOLD feature was on?

I use hold all the time and I don't have a concern with this. I keep my foot to the side or flat when using it. I also would assume that if you get hit from behind the force is going to try and pull your foot away from the peddle anyway (forcing you into the seat more). The brake is set irregardless.

Thanks for the reference information. My primary concern is disengaging the HOLD feature when struck from behind. Since hitting the Gas or Brake pedal releases the car from HOLD has Mercedes installed an override that prevents disengagement if the car is struck.
Just curious.

I break with my left foot and have done so for 50+ years. This solves your problem. It also works for FORMULA 1 drivers. Plus quicker responce time in an emergency.Originally Posted by ralawren
