Alternator message on C230K

Alternator message on C230K
I had my corner mechanic replace the alternator on my 2005 C230K. With only 40K miles. BTW , I love this car, six sp manual.
Used original equipment Bosh, rebuilt. Part was 335 UD plus 150 labor vs 1100 at dealer dor alt plus 1200 labor. Battery check indicated batt. was all right..
However computer warning , red light indicator of alternator or Battery failure does not turn off.
Do I need to take car to the dealer to clean up message and pay 300 bucks?
Does it actually do anything to keep warning on?
