2012 C350 Coupe 4matic
conti dws vs dws 06 ?

The Conti DWS are on special/closeout from tire rack right now for $563 and the dws 06 is $663. this will be my first set of tires for my c350 coupe 4matic and I was wondering if anyone has any insight on the difference between the two tires or is the $100 discount for the "older" (I guess) DWS tire worth it?

I live in Pittsburgh and currently am running the stock OEM continentals and drove fine through the big storm we had a few weeks ago. Fronts are prob around 7/32 and rears are 4/32 right now.

thanks for the help!

I would save the money and go for the close out. The DWS Extreme Contact has always been known for being very good in foul weather for a performance A/S tire, but fell a little short to the competition in the dry performance department. The new one sounds like marketing gimmick, saying they have improved the dry handling. Maybe they have improved the dry performance over the previous tire, but realistically how much dry performance do you expect from an A/S tire? If dry performance is really that important to you, then you'd run summer tires.

I've got the DWS Extreme Contact on my '13 C350 4M for about 10 months now and I've very pleased with them. They came out with the DWS 06 just after I bought the set of DWS.

I just looked at Tire Rack's website. The DWS 06 is UTQG rated 560 AA A, while the older version of the DWS (what I have) is UTQG rated UTQG 540 A A ,so it does look like they improved the dry traction to some degree on the DWS 06.

I don't know if the improvement is significant enough to justify the extra $100 cost over the older DWS tires.

EDIT: Here's one review from someone with an '09 BMW 335i xDrive Coupe:
"i had the older model of these tires on my car and lasted 15k miles the rear ones ran out first due to staggered setting so i replaced then and got the newer model dws 06 and man these tires are significant improvement over the previous model, more grip, less noise, much improved snow and ice traction."

I guess it might be worth the extra $100 for a set of DWS 06.

I had a set of the older DWS tires mounted a month ago and felt they provided a decent compromise from the OE summer tires I had. If you can save some $ I doubt you'll notice the difference.
