Outside temperature readout now reads three dashed lines?

I had this on my 2010 E550 ,I found two open wires from ambient temperature circuit in the harness on passenger side near the battery. The wires had been damaged by a rodent .When I disconnected the ambient temp sensor there was no change on dash sensor reading ,this indicated a wiring concern. If you disconnect the ambient temp sensor and the wiring is good it should default to something like -30 degrees ,I knew it was a wiring concern ,just had to locate and repair circuit. After repair A/c worked better and ambient temp sensor reads normal. This car was an estate sale vehicle and it sat for two months in storage . Near the master cylinder the rodent tried to build a nest but not established yet.It had just started to ingest the wiring .

At least the car is still drivable, but still annoying as hell. Does the malfunction affect the use of your Climate Control System? Sometimes when the ambient air sensor is out the A/C will act screwy. I’ve included a link for the W204 ambient air sensor replacement from YouTube.
Easy enough DIY, HOWEVER, before changing the sensor I would check to see if the vehicle is throwing any codes from the onboard diagnostics. Here are a couple of Mercedes ODB2 error codes, I’ll keep checking to find any more outside temperature related codes
B1226 In-car temperature sensor (B10/4)
B1227 Outside temperature indicator temp sensor (014)
P202D-004 CAN BUS signal from combination instrument controller, outside temperature error
I believe the above codes are Mercedes Specific. Below is an Internet article on a more generic ODB2 ambient air sensor error code. Depending on the Scanner you use you may get these codes.
