Air Con blower Unit
Had an interesting weekend - thought I would share some hard lessons.
I'm in Sydney, Australia. Bought a blower unit and thermostat housing from Rock Auto. Price was good, and they arrived fairly quickly from the US.
Then I tried to install the fan . . .
Turns out that not only is there a RH version of the fan available - it actually spins the other way as well!
Managed (after much grinding and gnashing of teeth, some swearing and 3 beers) to get the old blower unit out from behind the glovebox . . . I stand 6'4", so that was exciting . . . and the fan fell to pieces in my hands. The carbon bushes were shot to hell and had turned to dust.
The new unit is a physical opposite hand thing. So I took the mounting body off the old, and attached it to the new. Good right? . . nope. Fan actually sucked air in thru the vents! Jesus . . .
So I exchanged the wires on the connector.
It works . . but the fan still spins the wrong way . . and whilst it creates pressure, its nothing like the original fan.
The only place I can get an affordable blower unit for RH drive vehicles? - Lithuania.
So there you are . . . to all my car repairing brothers that drive on the left hand side of the road . . . . be careful what you order from the US.
