Trouble with lighting delay
I have just spoken to the MB concierge and he said that he hasn't come across this situation. He then checked with a tech using a 2017 coupe, and the lights do go off when the car is exited...but not locked. The tech said to bring the car in for evaluation...ugh! Anyone have a clue as to what may be happening?
EDIT: I think I just had a brainstorm, or a brainfrt, not sure yet, but rather than just pressing the start/stop button once to get juice into the electrical system, I started the car, shut it off, and exited without locking...and the lights went out immediately (remember all delay setting were on OFF.) So, it could be that the lights stay on longer when the engine isn't started, but act appropriate to their settings when the car is started??? Ah, yes, that may be the way it is. As a final test, I started the engine, and reset the delays to from 0 to 15 seconds, shut the engine off and got out of the car. Lo and behold, lights went out in 15 secs.
I'm now in the process of telling all this to the concierge so that he can relay it to the tech. Of course, if this is new to the tech, then I'm going to be quite leery of having work done by the tech.
EDIT2: When the tech did the testing, he had the engine on...this confirms what I have found out. However, another fly in the ointment is that I only did one press of the start/stop and perhaps I should have done two presses? Now HERE'S IS THE SOLUTION to the whole issue:
If you want to change/modify your car's setting, but you DON'T want to turn on the engine, then you press the start/stop twice as this will fully turn on the electric system. Do your settings changes and before you leave the car, press the start/stop one more time. This will turn off the system and everything will (should) work according to the settings. My error was that I failed to shut everything down by not hitting the start/stop a third time. And, the reason that all lights went out when I locked the car is that locking obviously will also shut down everything.
