Fuel consumption

Hi there,
I have the Air Matic 4 Matic cabrio version and I have the impression that the fuel consumption is lower in sport + mode. I mean at a constant speed (130km/h 9th gear). Does this make sense? Is it because of the lower position? I always thougt this raised the consumption.
By the way, the roof is almost always open. I don't know if this matters in this case.
Thanks for enlightning me.

My C300 Cabrio has given me 12l/100Km so far after some 5,800km driven.
I too drive it mostly with the roof down. I tend to dive it mostly in S and sometimes in S+.

I have never gotten anything close to MB posted numbers on any of my previous cars.

I really don't think too much about fuel consumption and I use only 94 Octane so I am probably just wasting that extra 3cents per litre.

Over this post Hurricane Harvey weekend gas price should pass $1.50 litre for 94

But this is such a great driving car who cares

I'm at 10l with 9000 km. If I do long drives (no braking) I can reach 8. Far from the official numbers indeed. But if you buy a car like this, fuel consumption is not the problem. I do hate to stop at the gas station whole the time...
I was just curious about the lower position / lower gas consumption rate.

The lower the car to the ground the better aerodynamics and fuel consumption. MB also went to all that trouble to keep the underbody nice and clean. I would guess the great fuel numbers has more to do with that 9th gear. I don't recall seeing 9th in S plus but at that speed I am usually focused on the road 😁

I drive in E mode most of the time, always using cruise control (even at low speeds in the city) and I'm at 8.6L / 100km after 13,039 km. C300 4Matic w/ sport suspension, 91 octane. On a long drive I've hit 7.5L / 100km, maybe even a bit less.

Last few weeks I stopped using the adaptive cruise control to see the difference. What a huge difference. I dropped from 10l to 8l per 100km. I didn't change my driving style.
The problem is the system doesn't anticipate, this results in the car accelerating despite a red light with cars 50 m ahead. This is followed by an emergency brake. In highway traffic the car does similar things but not this extreme. I now only use it in very low and very high speed traffic.

Cruise control

That's the reason why I only use cruise control on open highways, or very slow queues. If the traffic is more irratic, it's just a waste of fuel.
(And annoying)
