Engine stalled and locked after driving in puddle
I’m always bragging about how I feel so safe in my C 300 coupe this is my fourth Mercedes, however, this weekend driving through a 6” puddle my engine totally stalled and locked up and had to get towed! Now I’m possibly looking at a new engine this is completely surprising and really disappointing. What really hurts is a 15 year old Hyundai Elantra drove right through it after me and nothing happened so I’m just really thinking something is not right here. I’ve seen some others who may have experienced this any thoughts? I’m devastated

I got through the "puddle" and soon as I got out the engine stalled and would not turn over. Lights came on and a small sign of life but nothing. Dealer said the engine is water injected and locked up. Best case scenario abuot $7-8K in repairs worst case they have to replace the entire engine. It's ridiculous I never thought I would have this type of issue with a state of the art car.

Actually @E55Greasemonkey it was not, I have a photograph - the deepest part in the middle at curb level which is 6 inches deep - what happened because the coupe is so low to the ground and all the injectors, air intake, etc is low to the ground apparently the push creates a wave into the engine where everything is located. I talked to a BMW sales person and an overall foreign car collision specialist and they stated the same; it does not take much. I just think they need to inform customers that although your car is amazing in all sorts of weather in handling (which it is), don't go through any standing water. Like I stated... a Hundai Elantra went in after me with no issues! This is my 4th Mercedes I have had 3 coupes sports models and this is the first time something like this has ever happened. If you look on other threads here, I am not the only one this happened to.

If the engine was hydrolocked, you could potentially be looking at a new engine. Happened to someone on a C63, see YouTube video:
I'll save you the time of watching 3 separate videos: The guy went to his insurance. Car was decaled total loss. He was able to get a replacement car.
