Just took delivery of a CPO 2019 C300 Coupe. I'm looking forward to learning how to use all the technology and just plain driving the thing. The first question I have is about the "Hand Free Access" option. I see three related codes on the build sheet; 871 is Sensors for trunk lid opening and closing, 881 is Remote Trunk Locking, and 887 is Separate Trunk Lid Locking, Does all that mean I should be able to wave my foot under the rear bumper to open and close the trunk? If so, it isn't working.

Yes, 871 is the HANDS-FREE ACCESS. You might also have P17, which is the entire HANDS-FREE Comfort Package. As far as I know, HANDS-FREE is standard in the USA. However, it's not a wave motion like side to side. You have to use a kick motion and you have to stand about a foot behind the bumper. Takes a little bit of practice and it doesn't always work the first time around. I get it to open most of the time. Sometimes I have to kick multiple times. The kick motion can't be too slow or too fast. The procedure is explained in the owners manual. However, the trunk can be locked in the COMAND settings (under vehicle settings), that's what option 887 is I think, so if you have the lock active then I believe HANDS-FREE no longer works.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. Looks like it's time to practice balancing on one foot. Merry Christmas!
