C43 w205 sedan
Coupe/Sedan track width

The W205 sedan (and wagon) for some weird reason seems to have more track width than equivalent coupe. Talking about the basic C-class, not actual AMG which is the opposite.

The coupe is supposed to be the sporty one, so what's the point to make it narrower by more than 2cm?? Maybe so it would look like a toy compared to the extra wide stance of an AMG c63 coupe? It must be the subframe that makes the difference, not the suspension components if I'm correct.

Can't think any logical reason behind this.. Does someone have a better explanation?

It's the same. The coupe just has wider wheels/tires, so the center of the wheels are pushed in further, shortening the track width. Outer edge to outer edge of the tire is the same width.

But as I'm talking about the c200 for example (AMG-line), all the body types are mostly sold with the exactly same AMG branded 5-spoke rims. No specific rims for the coupe at least here in europe. Those rims I have are 7.5 front and 8.5 rear in both the sedan and coupe (owned both), making the coupe narrower if given dimensions are to be trusted. This is what I'm wondering.

Well, the above diagrams you posted are with different width wheels. The measurements won't apply to a C200 coupe with narrower wheels. You have to get the actual measurements for the C200 with same size wheels. Those wheels will also have different offsets so that they are pushed out enough.

Yeah I know offsets and stuff, I have some history with old Beemers and ridiculous looking stances. Just confused by the seemingly official diagrams (and multiple car info sites) stating such info that renders absolutely useless, as one can't know what type of wheels it was calculated with (width or offset). My logic says they would use the same wheels for comparable measurements but for some reason they didn't.

Just checked the OEM codes for the rear subframe and some control arms, showing no difference between these two types of cars as expected.

C300 Coupe
The Coupe Design was going for that slopped down " bobtail " sorta look ~

A MB Design Element from the hallowed history of MB Sporty Coupes ~

Another almost illogical aspect of differing Rim and Tire Sizes on the Coupe is when it comes to the 4matic ~

Typically ~ an AWD system needs 4 matching Wheel and Tire sizes to operate as designed ~

Despite the half inch to 1 inch differences going on ~ Gotta Say ~ the Coupe ~ even in the lowly non AMG Stock Base Skinny Configuration . . .

Looks Dang Good from every Angle
