Unhappy Hard Starting Problem with 2000 C230

Hello I am new to the forum it looks like there is a lot of knowledge among you. I have a 2000 model C230 with hard starting problems. Both with cold and hot starts the engine cranks but does not kick in. I did replace the spark plugs but the was no change. I have seen a number of ideas about hard starts, but what should be my next important step? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Since you said hard starts, my question is does it start at some point? If yes,
I'd get an OBDII reader connected to it and see what codes are being displayed.
If not starting, I'd check to see if fuel is being delivered. If so, check plug wires
and anything ignition related. I once had a Mass Airflow Sensor fail and caused
my car not to start and when it did, it died. Sorry I didn't directly answer the
Q but it could be a host of things. How many miles on the car? What's the maintenance history of it (things replaced)?

yup, i agree with trbo2nr, its best to get a scanner and pull the codes. with yoru engine just cranking and not starting, i'm almost sure that you have some codes stored that will exactly tell you what is going on. i think, autozone might scan yoru car for free, but dont quote me on this or else i believe kragen's auto has them for like $100.
