Looking to buy 1996 C200
Hi guys..
I'm a newbie from Indonesia.
I realize that there are many different variants accross the continents, but I think the difference should not be too far.
Anyway, here's my situation. I'm planning to buy 1996/1997 C200 Elegance here in Jakarta. Doesnt matter whether it's an auto or manual tranny.
Now..can any1 here give ur own opinion abt this model? Could you share ur experiences?
Which parts need extra attention when purchasing the car?
How reliable is the car?
I hope i can get enough info b4 purchasing it.

I am from Indonesia as well. My friend had a 96 C200 Classic before, it was a manual. I think Elegance only comes with auto.
Problems with W202 are:
-MAF(Mass Air Flow Sensor)
-Lower Control Arm Bushings
-Various Check Engine Light problems (I think Indonesian W202 is okay, because our country doesn't really care about emission :v )
-For Indonesian W202, you should pay attention to the headliner, they prone to break
-If you want automatic, you should choose 97+ W202(5 speed auto compared to 4 speed)
-If you choose manual, be aware that the W202 clutch is really hard. After hours of traffic jams, you can get tired (happened to me when I drove my friends C200
)I think W202 is one of the most reliable benz ever made (don't flame me for this
). I bought one, and fell in love already. Especially for Indonesian small roads, it serves its purposes well.
