It sure did feel quicker than the C220 buts my personal opinion. But anyways back to the C220. I wanted to know from you guys what sort of packages were available for the C220 in 1995/1996. I also looked at some 1997-1998 C230 any major differences between the C220 and C230. Also before buying this car, what are the costs associated in the upkeep???

The 318i in Indonesia is a euro model, w/out emissions restrictions (my country doesn't require one); so it is comparably faster than the one at the states (but still can't beat a Honduh).

I am fully aware that there are engine differences in Bimmers, but the E36 318i saloon/coupe has M43 engine and 138hp, while the older ones have M40 engine.

I do not know why the C220 that you test drove is slower, but I'd definitely test drive another to compare. You don't want to waste money on a car that is slower than 318i (and hell, that thing is super slow already).

Mbusa did not offer any package for C220, only the standard package with different options. But, if Canada has Euro model, they offer 3 package (esprit, elegance, classic) in W202s as far as I know of.

Good luck on your purchase!

here are my thoughts from experience.

- down shifting is very slow in automatic gear. need to press pedal to the floor to downshift on the highway.

- low rpm power is weak. it pushes car only after about 3000rpm.

- floaty stock ride, with lots of body roll. (eibach pro springs are on the way).

- not so bad on gas, especially on the highway.

- I don't have traction control, so very very slipery in winter. (I opted for studded winter tires to compensate for this, it's forbidden in Ontario).

- very tight back seats.

- very expensive if something goes wrong. (C$500 for MAF sensor for example)

that's all I can think of right now.

between the the two, I would go for 96 if you don't mind the color. In fact I have beige/beige but I HATE the color. look so old people's car. well, my father's old and he owns it
Thats my feeling about the ride. BUt is also entry level luxurious too, which is good.
