1994 C280 - Shift Knob

I cannot figure out how to remove the shift knob from my '94 C280. (Didn't seem to be covered in my Haynes manual) Has anyone ever changed one before? If so how is the knob removed? Thanks!

You have to pull off the trim around the shift gate first...there's a bolt at the bottom of the shaft of the shift knob that you have to loosen first. The newer benz's are a lot easier to change (the shiftknob just twists off basically). But for the older ones you have to remove the entire shaft.

Or you can just take a hack saw, hack that knob off, and use an aftermarket one.

I agree with SLK Boy... on the twisting off via the bolt at the bottom. Hack saw is not recommended.
