Power Antenna

hey guys
I have a 98 W202 C200 Australian delivered model and I have just changed the stock head unit (Eurovox) with a swish new Alpine Head unit cd player/mp3.

Now my problem is, everytime this unit is on (even when Im listening to cds) with no need for the power antenna, it still goes up!
is there any way to make the antenna stay down, when I am listening to cds and only go up when im using the radio (which isn't much)

Is it an easy fix or is it impossible

Thanks for all your help!
Teddy.

It may be that your head gives an antenna signal whenever it is powered up, I just changed from a Sony single CD head which did this, to a Sony radio cassette head with cd multi-changer which only activates the antenna when the radio is on, so obviously there are different signals from different units.
I fitted both these units myself and there was no obvious way to alter the antenna signal on either unit.
Cheers, Geo.

Crutchfield may offer a power antenna adapter, I know they do for other cars. www.crutchfield.com

On a side note, power antennas suck. They get stuck halfway up, halfway down, and generally look ugly.

Teddy,
I just checked my head unit and found that with the traffic alert(TA) function enabled the antenna extends every time the unit is on,do you have it enabled ?

Mine does the same, I am installing some subz. So what I did is just disconect it in the trunk. Just take out the antenna power wire. It slips in and out, so it requires no cutting or any damage. I hardly use AM radio, sometimes FM and mostly my CD music.

Yes, it's behind the boot lining on the same side as the antenna. The plug is on the body of the antenna motor drive unit.
Your's is probably that shown in the first diagram here , no.80, Hirschmann.http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp...SGR=345&SGN=21 .
