Transmission has no gears...

Transmission has no gears...
Hey all,
been a while since I've been here...a lil background. Gave my brother the c220 when I moved to a '05 A4 :p The car has ~160k now, gave it to him with 143k.
Tonight, he was on his way home when he had no gears. He was stopped at a light, slight incline, in Drive. Off the brake, the car started to roll back. He gave it gas, it revved to about 4500 and it spun the rear wheels, finally moving. It just revs through all the gears, slow pickup. Finally made it home (was close when it started). Reverse gear works fine, no issues there.
Restarted car, issue still there...figured since it's a vacuum tranny and not the electronic ones. First gear does have a small issue...can't stomp on it otherwise it'll grind, have to be gentle with first gear. Other gears are fine though, no slippage, etc.
So I'm thinking it can't be that the tranny is shot but possibly a control module? Anyone shed any light on this?

just an update for those who care or what to know...
after checking out the car for myself...first gear is dead. Just revs now. Reverse still works fine. So it's just sitting in the garage now, chillin. Haven't decided what to do with the car.
Any idea on how much it would be to rebuild first gear?

u need another transmission its all ****ed.........
probrably a good reman trans from like precision or something w/ their 30mo warrenty and w/ labor you'll be out close to 3 grand. depending on what year it is if its electronic or not. . .. how often did u service the trans?
