need info to install timing chain on 95 c280

somebody please help me time this thing. had a burned valve. did the head job. started enginge and after 15-20 minutes the tapping noise wouldn't stop. i checked my timeing marks and was five degrees late. SO disassembled and can't find anything wrong. am i stupid or something? 95 C280 with 134 K miles. chain stretched? tensioner bad? Please Help.
