when i first start my car the fan does not blow. then as i drive it will eventually start. is this normal? any suggestions of what it might be?

Do you have automatic climate control?If you do , the unit will wait till after it takes a internal temperature reading and then wait to push warm/cool air into the cabin.

C43AMG, thanks for the reply. does this take place even if the auto climate control is turned off? it is even happening when i try to use the defrost.

Yes , the unit has no reason to blow cold air so it senses when the air is warm enough then engages.You're driving a luxury brand automobile..not a VW bug.
