a few questions about the m111

I just came off the w203 area.

I was reading up on the m111 in the w203 (wich im under the impression is also the engine in the 2000 c230k I want) and the newer 1.8. Wich I hear is quiter, and more responsive and has a higher rev.

Im still considering a w202 and since I havent actually test drove one, are they noticable loud? I wouldnt think so. I heard something about the exhaust not sounding right?

also, they said the m111 lags, its supercahrged, I thought that makes it so it doesnt lag? Is there a noticable difference in the imidiate power?

1.I cant spell. Im sorry.
2.Does the c230k use the m111? If not ill delete this post as its not valid.

Thanks guys.

The W202s came with the M111 engine, with shorter gearing and therefore could accelerate from 0-62 mph in 8.4 seconds. They too had a great power output of 142kw @ 5300 rpm and a good torque figure of 280Nm @ 4800rpm.

The W203 C230Ks came with the newly updated M271 which had a smaller engine displacement of 1796ccm and were thus more 'rev-happy'. However they had a slower 0-62 mph acceleration due to taller gearing. The later models came with twin pulse superchargers, but that hardly improved the performance figures. W203 230K performance figures:

Power Output: 141kw @ 5300 rpm
Maximum Torque: 260Nm @4000 rpm

The W203 C230K accelerates from 0-62 mph in 9,4 seconds, which is actually much slower as compared to a C320 which could do that in 7.8 seconds.

So then my 2000 c230K is going to be faster, stock, thena stock, w203?

I like that.

Well thanks for clearing all that up. I would much rather have the Torque and the 0-60, then have a high rev engine. also, from what I've heard, the m111 is one of the best engines every built by MB. And the tranny is also top notch?

Thanks for the insight and clearification on all that.

No Problems. The W202s are great cars, just as the W203s are. Just that the 4 cylinder supercharged engines were not as good as the M112 V6s. The strength of the W203s were in their V6 engines.

Also the W203 C240s were only 0.1 of a second slower than the W203 C230Ks, only that the M271s supercharged fours felt more torquey than the M112 V6s on lower revs.
