Question about Tranny
I have a 1997 C 280 with 65,536 miles on my car.
Recently after playing a round of golf, I drove my car out of the parking lot to the main road and upon entering, the rpm went all the way up to 6000 WITHOUT shifting to 2nd gear, it stayed that way for about 10 seconds when I finally pulled to the side of the road. I then drove it again when there were no cars and now it shifted properly. After a short 10 min drive, I shut off the car and had dinner. Upon finishing dinner and starting up the car again, the Check Engine light came on and this time when the car shifted from 1st to 2nd, I heard a clunking noise
Is my tranny going? or is there another problem?
Thanks in advance
Sounds like valve body problems.
Our transmissions were the 1st year of use and the valve body has been updated. MB here in Canada has replaced mine twice.
1st in warranty.
2nd a year and a half after warranty had expired. They paid for all parts the second time.
I complained loudly and still worry as to its reliability in the future.
Metal particles seem to be blocking the small holes in the VB.
They have done nothing to stop the formation of these metal particles that I am sure I will get another failure befre trade in time. Luckily in Vancouver BC Canada, the dealerships are all owned by MB so the level of service is very very good.
