Avg MPG on a M111
I have a friend with a 2000 C230 K. He is getting 22 mpg. This sounds seriously low to me.
What do you guys get for mileage?
I was thinking of cleaning out his MAF for him, but wanted input prior to starting up the work.

EPA rating for the 200 C230 was 21 City, 29 Highway. We just got a '99 yesterday, so I've yet to accumulate my own data. If he drives mostly in town, or aggressively, or his air filter is dirty, or he needs a tune up, these things could all contribute to lower mileage. A bad MAF usually has more symptoms than just lowered fuel mileage. It wouldn't hurt to inspect it, but if it's not bad, I doubt you'll notice any significant mileage increase messing with it.

It is a 4 cylinder ...
but, Its a SUPERCAHRGED 4 cyl. 22, mostly city, I wouldnt consider bad. If its alot of highway I would sugest a tune up might be in order.
low octane fuel? Clean Air Filter? spark plugs? lighter foot

2000 C230 sport
i have a 2000 c230k....same question i guess, but not really. i used to have a saturn...31 average in town, 36-40 (seriously) on long highway drives (stopping only to fill up), and 20 in pure city.
my c230k gets 17-21 in pure city. i mean 1st and 2nd gear, 3rd for 2 seconds until the next light turns red...

um. that sounds strange to me. i have 02 w/m111 s/c engine and i get a consistent 28.5 mpg, every single time i care to calculate it. i drive everywhere. and i have a lead foot and a case of "little man" syndrome.

I thought they stoped making the M111k engine for the 230k when they changed the design of the car 01/02. That was what I thought? Or did they keep making it? I heard the older engine(00) is actually faster then new one(01-04).
