An Affordable Chip?

ive looked on ebay but cant find many that are reliable, what exactly does a chip do? it says in the add above that the powerchip adds 18hp to C230, how is that possible????? i mean what exactly does a tint chip do, and is it easy to install? will it **** up the ECU? also are there any cheap ones that work? any no-name brands that work just fine?

You won't get much out of a chip in a Mercedes. They are pretty much tuned to get the maximum out of the engines.

From what I have read, people take the chips out as there in no improvement.

ok, is it possible to tune-up the stock ECU ? like if i take it to a mechanic can they tune the shyt in the ECU so it increases hp without installing another chip? isnt a "performance" chip the same as a stock chip, only it has been modified? cant u just tune up the stock benz chip?

heres some links: do these chips work???????

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/35HP-...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-92...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PERFO...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCE...QQcmdZViewItem

heres a seemingly German one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-92...QQcmdZViewItem

the sellers on this site have 98% + feedback ratings and soooo many people have left positive feedback. these guys claim the chip module think increases the fuel amount in the air-fuel mixture to run richer instead of cleaner. they say it will sacrifice fuel economy for more power. is this true?? they say you can gain 35hp like this, is this a scam?? if it works without ****ing up the engine i would defintly sacrifice fuel economy mpg for higher HP. anyone buy this product?

why by the expensive ones wen they all claim to do the same thing, all these chips seem to do is alter fuel-to air ratio:
http://www.upsolute.com/eng/index.html

whats the diff between this expensive one above and the affordable ones on the top????????

To get 35HP out of a chip, you have to already have a badass engine with mods. Maybe like a AMG benz could do that. IF you want to change your air / fuel mixture, take it to a mechanic and change it. A chip changes the overall read out of your cars maps. It cahnges how sensitive the gas pedal is. It cahnges the "computer" or the way your car thinks. Do you research on a real companies chips before you buy a cheap one. Im sure they can find a 12$ way to add 100HP and sell it on Ebay. But if that where true, and safe, they would be sponsering the board. The admins arent going to let companies that they know are garbage have a banner on their site. Save your money and some headache.

Go to powerchip or stealth auto. click there banners and read.

What kind of car do you have?

i have c280, im wondering if that stuff those guys on ebay are selling is garbage, however they have hundreds and hundreds of buyers who are pleased with it, even benz owners. you think its a good deal for like $20?

also, if i take it to the mechanic can they modify the ECU to raise HP by increasing fuel, and lowering my MPG? can this be done? does it fukk up the car? has anyone here with benzs done it?

"It works by tricking the iat senser into thinking its approx 25 degrees colder then it reall is.Basically cars are made to run to rich from the factory, theres a safety zone to where it is dangerous for it to run to lean,to lean is more air,to rich is more gas, less air

This chip is well within the safety zone so it wont run to lean but still strong enough to give a great boost to your horsepower.

Since cold air is less combustible then warm air, when the iat senser reads a colder temperature,it lets more air into the engine for combustion to make up for it.By the iat senser being tricked by the chip to read a colder temperature,it lets in more air accordingly.Thats where the horsepower comes from. Its perfectly safe, the numbers have been dynotested. This is safe for everyday use"

this is what the ebay seller told me when i asked him about the affordable chips above. he said its dynotested and plus so many people left him excellent feedback. now if this guy is scamming i doubt he could CONTINUE to trick hundreds and even thousands of buying it because sooner or later they find out if its a scam and stop buying, but they keep on buying from these guys.

now in terms of RENNtech or other high performance chips, if i had money to waste like that id just send my C280 to Brabus Gmbh and let them upgrade the whole damn car

I've got a c230k and have found few good ones, but your looking at £300-800

CKS Perfoirmance are a reputable company but pricey

For me £700 for 20 summin hp

RS Tuning do one that adds 40bhp for £300

and evolve your car do one for 500 that adds 20bhp

I know theyre fine for m111k because the engine was designed to run at 10psi boost but at stock only runs at 5.

From what I've heard the C280 is not very tunable.

If you want, buy a chip from ebay. Piggy back it. Take it to a mechanic and have him check it out. See if its over extending anything. See what it will cost for him to do this.

Because you cant provide oil change records for the past so many years, or every single piece of mechanical tuning your car gas done, when the seller says "Its safe on all cars" means if it breaks your car his lawyer will blame it on previous maintnece.

So you can buy the cheap one, try it, let us know how it works out. Hope it doesnt ruin something.

Or, get a new filter, mayeb even a new intake system. Be happy with that. Good luck

I myself wouldn't touch any chip from Ebay. There's a reason why companies like Performance Products, Evosport, as well as numerous dealerships use Powerchip for their performance software... Simply said, they're one of the best tuners on the market. They've been tuning European cars for 15+ years and have numerous testimonials and dyno sheets proving their gains.

In regards to Powerchip's advertised gains, they are in fact true and possible. Mercedes tunes their vehicles VERY conservative, basically for 88-89 octane fuel from the factory, so simply tuning for 91/93 octane fuel and only adding that fuel will in itself gain awesome power.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions or would like a hookup on software; I'll be glad to help.

Sincerely,

Aaron

old thread but I'd though I'd amend

I can't claim for the Merc but I've bought many of chips from Ebay for my E30 and E34 BMWs (3 and 5 series) and the chips work great.

IMO
I assume that they may get a Dinan, JC, or other reputable chip then copy it with a EPROM programmer onto blank chips
