newbie with a new merc

Hello fellow w202 owners! Just for some background, ive come from "the other side". Having driven BMW 525 and bmw 328 sport for the past 4/5 years, i decided to look into the W202 as everytime i see one driving home from work on the motorway they look so lush when tastefully modded. So i went to look at c240 sport the other day and laid down a deposit straight away and then went back yesterday to pick it up. Paid £4100 in total. The spec is late 1999 (v reg) C240 sport in dark met blue. Full black leather enterior, air con, climate cntrl etc. it has 90k with full merc SH. I was originally looking for a 280 sport but couldnt find anything decent so settled with a 240 sport. when i picked it up the 40 mile drive home was brilliant. such a comfortable drive and nice place to be inside. i'm glad i went for the sport as i needed that sporty edge. its stitting at home on my drive at the mo waiting to be taxed, and will take pics on a sunny day to show you lot.

so what do you think so far? does it sound like a good example for the money i paid?

I have a few question if someone can kindly answer.

1. When i was driving the car back home the steering is just slightly a few degrees off centre when driving straight. any ideas how this can be rectified?

2. The head light switch (on the right hand side) does not illuminate like the rest of the AC dials. how easy is it to change the bulb? assuming that its the bulb which has fused.

3. i have no idea about merc OBC (on boad computer). dont even know if i have one or not. i've always had one in my bmw but doesnt seem like the 240 has one unless i cant use the fuctionality?

Thanks guys, and very happy to join to MB world cummunity!

I can't speak on whether you got a good buy, since I am not familiar with the UK used car market, but to help you with the other questions:

1. It is probably a simple allignment issue, possibly a bent steering component or bad bushing. If you bring it for an allignment that will either fix it or the preceeding inspection will make you aware of any other problems (assuming you go to a MB official service center).

2. It is most probably a bulbm and it should not be too difficult to replace, but I am not familiar enough with the W202 to provide you with the replacement procedure.

3. Yes, there is one that is fairly advanced, but it is not very functional for the driver.

I have a 1997 C280

1. Get a wheel alighment.
2. to be honest...I don't think there is a bulb to be replaced there. If it is
that's a big surprise to me.

The light on the headlight knob only illuminates when you gently pull it out to the second detent. The first detent turns on the front fogs. The second turns on front and rear plus lights the knob.
