Afternoon,

I am in LOVE with the W124. So I ask this question to you W202 lovers...

The W124 has often been said to be "the last in a long line of 'money-no-object' Mercedes" - Specifically the '92-95 model years.

Anyone of you want to defend the '94-95 W202?? I would consider buying one if anyone can 'convert' me

I will hold my breath as I await your responses...so make it fast!

If you are going to buy a w202, you want to buy a 99-00 w202 when they had worked most of the bugs out.

I picked up a '95 C220 in December (116K when I bought in, now has 128K) and so far I can't
find anything not to like about the car. Runs smooth,
handles great. Uses maybe half a quart of oil between
oil changes. Doesn't use any coolant at all. Climate control is great. Can get 34/5 mpg freeway (though I drive
like an old lady). Comfortable interior, roomy trunk. Transmission doesn't shift silky smooth but from what I hear that's normal for this transmisison model. Only "complaint" is the engine runs with
a "buzzy" sound, as others have noticed. Had its predecesor, the 190E,
and its infinitely better than that model.

Just as you wouldn't want to buy one of the early W124s . . . the early W202s might be avoided.

As for comparing the W201 to the W202 . . . yes, things do change after a 10 year chassis production run.

I still have two W201s (8 valve, 16 valve) and just got a '99 C280. The V-6 is nice, but I'll have to say that there are some parts of the interior, like all the "mouse fur" in the newer interior, that just seems cheap in comparison.

No problems or bad experience with my C280, just give it its service and goes and its gonna be 4 years and still runs great but unfortunatly in about a month or two I'm gonna replace it probably for an S500 pre-owned from the year 05-06. I test drove the S-class about a month ago and love the ride, space and the passing power which something C280 lacks on.
