misfire problem!!!! please help

just this morning, my 2000 c240 started misbehaving.

first it would battle to take off from standstill, but once its going, it seems ok.
then when you slow down, the idle drops to almost switching off.

then i asked my wife to drive the car, and i saw it belching smoke out the exhaust. it didnt smell like oil, the oil and water levels are fine, the heat gauge is fine.

what could it be?

strange thing happened.... remember i said it belched smoke as well..
funny thing is, i havnt sorted out the problem yet, but its runnig fine now
i wonder if it could be something to do with the fuel
its still goin in next week though for a tune up.

we'll see.

MB C240
I have the same problem with my C240... When still, the car vibrates, and when accelerating it is slow... It almost seems as if the car is working on 3 cylinders instead of 6!!

I am trying to figure this out!! I hope it's the sparks, but I have a feeling it's not the sparks...

ps.
prior to this problem, I filled up with 87 octane, and I am thinking this might be the cause!!

Keep us informed!!

the problem didnt come back.
but what i did do was remove the MAF and clean it with benzene and the car became more responsive.
it was brought to my attention by my mackie that the problem could have occurred if any oil collected in the MAF and that its advisable to clean it often. that way it lasts you much longer.

good luck to all.
