Climate Control Backlite
My wife's 99 C280 sport climate control no longer lights up (neither the display nor the buttons). We also noticed the vents buttons don't seem to work all the time. Can the bulbs be replaced to get it to light up again?

There are 2 versions of the Climate Control Unit. One has bulbs that can be replaced, the other has bulbs that can't be replaced and you would have to change the whole Climate Control Unit. The only way to know which unit you have is by taking it out and seeing if you can access the bulbs. The bulbs usually have tape covering the hole where they would be.
I forget off hand, but the bulb is either accessed from the bottom or from the back, its a small 1.5 watt bulb.

my climate control unit's light went out when the car is 4 year old, and luckly enough, it was still under the factory warranty. dealer replaced the whole climate control unit for free. by the way, mine is 97 C230.

Looks like I need a new head unit
Figures, the car went out of warranty this September. Other than a mass air sensor, (under warranty) this car has been perfect for 4 years.

Try to work something out with your dealer. About a month or two after my car went off warranty, the PSE pump in my car needed replacement, which would have cost about $1000. My father spoke with the dealer, and they replaced the part for no cost. Then again, we have a good relationship with our dealer and have bought two cars from them.
